Registration Statement:  The Prosper ISD Police Department is a full service, independent, Texas Police agency. We are dispatched by the Town of Prosper Police Department and work cooperatively with them to ensure a safe school environment. We also have jurisdiction in all areas of the Prosper Independent School District and work cooperatively with Frisco Police Department, Collin County Sheriff’s Office, Denton County Sheriff’s Office, McKinney Police Department and Celina Police Department.

Why has your department decided to start a body camera program?
Sgt. Smith: We are here to protect and serve our community and body cameras are another tool that helps protect both the officers and the citizens.

How do you believe a body camera program will benefit your officers, department and the community?
Sgt. Smith: They allow us to see things first hand and protect everyone, such as false complaints against our officers or officer misconduct should that ever happen.

Are there any situations where having body camera video evidence would have made a difference in court cases or complaints against your officers?
Sgt. Smith: Any addition information could help in court cases or complaints.

Does your department have guidelines for a body camera policy? If so, what would the policy be? When would officers be required to record, etc.?
Sgt. Smith: We are currently working on a policy for the use of body cameras.
