Why has your department decided to start a body camera program?
Darrell Fixler: We want to get Body Cameras for the safety of our EMS crews and the public.

How do you believe a body camera program will benefit your officers, department and the community?
Darrell Fixler: It would help our crew members to validate situations we encounter and record and preserve critical video evidence. Many times as EMS we’re the first on the scene and we see the scene first so evidence may be trampled or moved as we try to help patients and victims. If w’ere wearing body cameras, we can capture critical video evidence from the moment we arrive on the scene. Also in cases where patients refuse service and later on develop medical problems or die from their injuries, with body cameras we would have video evidence of them refusing the treatment.

Does your department have guidelines for a body camera policy? If so, what would the policy be? When would officers be required to record, etc.?
Darrell Fixler: We don’t have one in place yet, but we’re researching and reaching out to other agencies that have policies in place.
