Registration Statement: We are a small agency that provides court security as well as enforcing New York State V&T laws, Environmental Laws and local laws. The population is 7900 people, we have a very limited budget and we have to provide our own gear, firearms, uniforms. With the litigious nature of society these body cameras would give us another tool to interact with the public.

Why has your Agency decided to start a body camera program?
Supervisor Lanning: Primarily our constables are used during court proceedings. It would be helpful to have video of what transpired.

How do you believe a body camera program will benefit your officers, department and the community?
Supervisor Lanning: Body cameras take out the “he said/she said scenario because everything is captured on tape.

Are there any situations where having body camera video evidence would have made a difference in court cases or complaints against your officers?
Supervisor Lanning: We’ve had a couple of cases where people have exhibited aggressive behavior in court and it would be helpful to have video to bring those incidents to light.

Does your department have guidelines for a body camera policy? If so, what would the policy be? When would officers be required to record, etc.?
Supervisor Lanning: We don’t have one in place yet.
